Can you kayak in Canmore?
If you’re staying in Canmore, there are a few great options to bring your canoe and kayak. My favorite is the Canmore Reservoir, just 5 minutes outside of town, past Quarry Lake and near the Nordic Center. It’s easy to access and put your own kayaks, SUPS, or canoes in.

Spray Lake is beautiful with clear cold water but we came during an extreme heatwave near the end of June. There were not a lot of people around but those who were there were swimming. There is no cellular service in this area and only outhouses.

How long does it take to kayak from Banff to Canmore?
We started at the end of the Golf Course and it only took us 2 hours to reach Canmore. I didn’t think we are paddling all that hard (the trip normally takes up to 4 hours) but we had to paddle fairly aggressively at every corner to navigate around the sweepers – and there was a corner or turn every 5 minutes.
Is it better to canoe on Lake Louise or Lake Moraine?
Both Lakes are great for canoeing, and they are the same price per hour. Be aware as well that the parking area at Moraine lake is quite limited in the middle of the day (particularly on weekends). If possible, it is best to visit the lake shore either early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid crowds.
Is Moraine Lake Open 2021?
The 13 km road to Moraine Lake opens (subject to weather conditions) the Tuesday after Victoria Day in mid-May and closes the Tuesday after Canadian Thanksgiving in mid-October. The planned opening day for 2021 is May 25, 2021.
